This is the second installment of the Boss distortion pedals. This compounds on the popularity of the Boss DS-1. This pedal takes the platform of the Boss Ds-1 and adds some needed features.

Level Control adjusts the amount of signal going out to your amp.
Tone Control adjusts the tone of the signal.
Distortion Control adjusts the amount of distortion added to the signal.
Mode I: produces a powerful distortion sound with flat characteristics, without being muffled even with volume turned down. The special Turbo Circuit serve to remove unpleasant shrill caused by distorted frequencies.
Mode II: produces a sticky distortion with very unique characteristics in the middle range frequencies. The Turbo Circuit again create a powerful grunge distorted overload.
Remote: You can plug in a Boss FS-5U footswitch to toggle between Modes I and II.

Controls: Level, Tone, Dist, 2-way Turbo switch
Connectors: Input, Output, Remote, AC Adaptor
Current Draw: 12 mA (DC 9V)
Weight: 400 g (15 oz.)
Input Impedance: 1MOhm
Recommended Load Impedance: More than 10kohm
Recommended AC Adaptor: PSA Series

This pedal has the tone of the Boss DS-1 in side but also has some more metal style voicing as well. I never like the Boss DS-1 and so this pedal to me is better but still a bit of a let down. The Boss Ds-1 is a cheap distortion pedal and it simply says "distortion" on it so every beginner guitar player in the world has either seen this pedal or uses this pedal if they have a clean amp. When you set the turbo over in the second position or mode two it gets a more nasally sound similar to a metal zone Boss pedal or just a more tinty distortion tone. It isn't very appealing to the ear and actually sound just as terrible as the Boss DS-1 or the Metal Zone Boss pedal.

At new these pedals come in right at around $79. Not that bad of a price but not nearly as good as a Boss SD-1 or an Ibanez tubescreamer TS9. Those pedal are about the same price and much more usable as far as tone. I would recommend those pedals over this unit every day.
