I couldn't be happier for the price I paid ($100 USD). Got it used from some guy on craigslist. The clean channel on this amp has some of the best tone I've heard come out of a solid state amp. The overdrive leaves a little to be desired, but can be fixed with a pedal of your choosing. My only complaint would be that the spring reverb is not that...
It was OK. As a backup. Wouldn't want it as my 'main rig' though. I could play over the drummer, and FX sounded good through the clean channel, but not GREAT. It was kind of unreliable too, but that's probably because mine was used so much, and for a great number of years before I owned it. After replacing some POTs, and getting it servic...
Love its size, weight, response and tube-like VOX cleans. Tried numerous practice amps before buying one of these, and my blues - playing father stole it from me promptly once I upgraded to all tube stuff. I have guitar gear OCD, so that's just how it goes.
Volume knob (like on almost all Fender tube amps) gets really loud at '2', which i've heard there is a mod to fix. It's kind of annoying though, because it gets REALLY loud with just a minor adjustment of the Volume knob. That could be an advantage for some, but not myself. I leave it on 2-3 and adjust volume now through the Digitech unit. <br ...
There's not really anything I can say I dislike about the amp. It has less gain and is less aggressive than my Mark III but that's expected, it's not recreating the aggressive Mark III, rather the smoother IIC+ and IV. So that's not a downside to me. This may not recreate each amp perfectly but it does a great job and has a sound all it's own...
Great value for the money if you can find one used. Great workhorse amp to get started with getting good tones and such if you've got some pedals. Also an awesome beginner's first tube amp I'd say. Pretty easy to use and sounds quite decent. If I saw another one of these I'd most likely pick it up!
I firmly believe that this is a rock amp. Say what you will. If you want cleans, then a blackface is probably in order. But if you want cleans and a cranked sound...go for a vibroverb. Really. I don't know if Fender is making reissues of this amp. They should. I think these originals are pretty underrated. There are a few boutique makers...
I think this amp fits a certain niche of players very well. The old school will probably stick to the rawer sounding amps. But for the new school who wants a more pristine sound, I think this might be the best ticket to the ride. The price is pretty fair. You are getting a high quality tube amp with great parts in it. I really like my duoto...
I will say my only gripe about this amp is that it is a little overpriced. I realize they are handwired and all that, but this is not much amp for the money. I have no complaints with the amp itself obviously. I just think there are better deals out there. (morgan/top hat) anybody? Still, this amp is a cool idea that's a nice change from th...
